I found this Spanish School through just a random internet search. It had good reviews, as did others, however The Insituto responded very quickly, and were more than willing to accommodate me last minute. I have taken lessons in other countries, and this was the best class so far. The teacher, Zhara, was excellent; very well educated and trained in language teaching, and she had an engaging personality. She was adept at picking up what I needed to learn in Spanish, level-wise, and practically. She modified the lessons well in this regard, and pushed me forward with new information as well. I liked the classes so much, I signed for another week.

The school was very organized and all of the employees had a sincere desire for the students to master their level of Spanish. The curriculum was organized and well planned. The workbook that we received was very good. Only one thing I would suggest and that is if the school could give us answer pages to the workbook so we can review and continue studying our Spanish (using the workbook as one of our resources), once we returned home to our country of origin. However, other than that, I had a GREAT time.

The school is really professional. Teachers are helping wherever and whenever they can. Classes are small so teachers do have enough time for personal attention. My teacher Roberto gave us also a lot information about the city, the country and the different opportunities for adventure/travelling. In addition to to the learningprogram, the school organizes many other activities and projects. It's possible to enjoy a citytour, a cooking class, salsadancing lessons etc.. They can help you with finding a community project in for example the Amazone.

Top teachers, top management working with good teaching material. The strenght of the school is no doubt the competent and dedicated teachers with small study groups. The individual practice time is large and teachers have the time and recourses to meet the individual needs. What I like is that we also had different teachers so we would get in touch with different teaching styles. Whats more is the administration is really there to help with anything (also about things not conected to the school) and is sincerely concerned about the students' well-being. Individual study plans are made possible. The school is really flexible if you want to take more or less classes.

Recommendable. The atmosphere in the school is really nice, while the break you can sit next to all the other students and eat, drink tea or coffe and talk. Through the breaks, cooking classes and Salsa lessons its really easy to make new friends and get in contact with the others, even if youre travelling alone. The spanish classes are little (2-4 students), so its easier for the teacher to focus individually on the students. I always felt free to ask the teacher and became the right answers in a competent way, we also made jokes throuhout the lessons so it never got boring. I also could ask the employers/teachers how to get somewhere or how to get there with which bus, they always helped. The school is in the centre of Quito, so you can easily do sightseeing or going to a cafe or restaurant alone or with the other students after the spanish lessons if you want.

Good Place to learn spanish. I really ennoyed my four weeks here in quito. The school is very interested to improve your spanish skills and to get familiar with their country. The teachers are always motivated and friendly. They always cater for each student's individual needs and try their best to fulfill their wishes. I felt very comfortable during classes and the atmosphere was always relaxed. The location, in the historic center, could'nt be better.

Highly recommended My husband, Ian Allen, and I did 40 hours of lessons at the school. We were both very satisfied with the classes and our progress. Our only regret was that we couldn't have stayed longer. We also both felt we needed to practice using sentences with the verbs we were learning to give us a better understanding. Just having a list to learn wasn't enough. In fact on reflection fewer verbs and more speaking practice using the different tenses of the same verbs would have been the most useful for us. Though we may have done this more if we had stayed longer. Overall it was a very good experience, everyone was very helpful and we would love to return. We highly recommend ISE de Espanol to anyone wanting to learn Spanish. Kind regards Jo and Ian

Was sehr gut war. :) Sophia Muller

Feedback from Laurinda I had a really positive experience at ISE in Quito! The teachers were excellent and after only a few weeks of class I felt confident traveling through Ecuador. The lessons were well organized and structured and the teachers gave good explanations for grammar and vocabulary. They were also very patient and very kind giving corrections and encouraging students. I've learned other languages before, yet I feel this has been one of my most positive classroom experiences. The cooking parties and food provided at break was also great. It created a social atmosphere for students to get to know each other.

I spent two weeks at El Instituto Superior de Español, which is conveniently located in the centre of Quito. I had had Spanish lessons prior to coming to Quito, but received lessons that fit my level well. I had private classes, which were both intense, as well as effective. The school offers a variety of activities in Quito, which is a great option when traveling alone. The school helps you with anything; buses, airport transportation - they even helped me when I had trouble navigating the city alone on my first day. Staying with a local family was a great experience, they were very welcoming and included me in their everyday life. It is an amazing way to experience Ecuador while practicing your Spanish.

I'm Telling Everyone Back Home About This! This experience was absolutely amazing and one of the best times I've had traveling. After traveling for the past 4 months it's so nice to get up every morning, have a routine and after school have a cozy comfortable place to come home to. The teachers are all so hiliarous and really make it fun to learn. It's amazing how quickly everyone progresses in the first two weeks. After that it gets a bit harder with the grammar. I definitely want to look into coming to a school like this again during my travels.

I had a great time! I had a wonderful time at this school! I took a group class for the first 3 weeks and could not have asked for a better teacher or environment to begin my learning of the Spanish language. The teacher was patient and responsive to our needs as a group but also took time to ensure each student was understanding. MY final week was spent in a private lesson and I feel as if I have gotten more than my money's worth. My professor was awesome and made me truly feel capable of learning the language. The entire staff at the school is there to support you and it is clear. THEY are very thoughtful and intentional about everything from your first day of class to the very end. They are willing to help you book activities for the weekends or afternoons and always recommended great things to do. If I ever find myself in Quito again and in a position to take another class I would absolutely choose this school!

When we arrived at the airport in Quito we where picked up be and taken to oure host family. Eugenio told us about the city and its people, and what the different parts was like. When we arrived at oure host we was greeted whit a smile and felt at home right away! We got a nice room which was well furnished. At the school we started with the basic grammar, and the teachers where good at finding my level. I felt that they worked hard to help me understand the new and at times confusing language that Spanish was to me. After four weeks I feel ready to take my skills to the "real" world! The school has been very helpful in organizing every part of our travel and excursions in Ecuador!

In Quito bzw. Alles in allem muy recomendable!

Excellent experience.

Just what I was looking for! My husband and I took a week of 1-1 lessons to refresh our rusty Spanish at the start of our 4 week visit to Ecuador.. My teacher, Tania, is knowledgeable, experienced and patient. Because of her flexibility, I was able to not only improve my Spanish, but also to engage in conversations (in Spanish) about topics of interest about all things Ecuadorian. We are glad we took advantage of some of the guided field trips (with Mario to the Guayasamin Museum and the Quito by night with Washington). My husband's feedback is under the title (Excellent experience).

Really enjoyed my time here at ISE, although 5 hours of Spanish a day was a little intense! I enjoyed staying with the family, and the house was in a good location. Although I enjoyed my lessons, I´d say the best thing was having the school be so helpful- it made my trip much easier to have someone meet me at the airport and show me around Quito for the first day, as well as offering advice whenever needed. I have enjoyed my lessons at the ISE, where I have learnt pratical Spanish for my trip around Ecuador. Although I found 5 hours a day hard work, the support from my teacher was useful, although i would have enjoyed more structure to the course as it was mainly vocab learning. The family I stayed with was friendly and welcoming. I would definately consider doing another course in the future with ISE if in Ecuador.

A great summer in Quito I had an excellent time at this school. I learned a significant amount in three short weeks and I cannot wait to return to the US and continue practicing what I've learned with my Spanish speaking students. Though learning grammar can often be boring, Saira made practicing it fun. In fact, all three teachers that I had have such an unfailingly positive attitude they helped set the class at ease to practice speaking aloud. All three teachers were skilled at explaining new vocabulary while remaining in the target language. It was tough at first, but in the end it's clear that I learned much more than I would otherwise. My accommodations were also excellent, and I had a wonderful time socializing with the other students and practicing Spanish with my host family. I also enjoyed many of the activities that the school organized, from weekend tours, to museum outings, to group lunches.

The lessions with Tanja were very structured and well built up. I liked the way how she explains the language and its rules. The notes on the white board are very useful to take your own notes. Very good school The school is very good situated (especially for us because we stayed close to the Plaza Sun Blas) Everyone who works there is very nice and helpful and speaks a very clear Spanish so it's easy to understand them. Tania was our teacher for two weeks and she was brilliant. She explains everything in Spanish and I was very surprised that I understood so much (I already took some lessions before in Mexico..) Also she speaks English (and knew a lot of words in German!), so she could explain in English if there was no chance to understand the other way... But all the rules or everything else she teached was extremliy clear and easy to understand. And she has a good mix between speaking and writing.

Learning Spanish at this school in Quito as a beginner was a really good experience. i learned really fast and a lot. The combination of Trips around the city, cultural and culinaric events makes learning Spanish a whole new experience. You walk straight out of school and can use what you just learned. In the time of School, you get to know a lot people that form a community and share the daily experiences. The school is extremely organized and gives you enough comfort to learn efficiently as well lets you have enough space and freedom to travel and make your own discoveries. I had a really great = time learning Spanish at the ISE Quito.

One Week Spanish Course I came to Ecuador for volunteering in an ecological project. Before it starts i went to Instituto Superior de Espanol to learn and improve my spanish. Before i came to Ecuador i learned spanish at the online platform Babbel, so knew already some grammar and some vocabulary, Thats why i took only one week of spanish courses, It improved my grammar, y vocabular und above all to speak spanish and get used to talk in spanish. I would only recommend one week of spanish if you leaned a lot already at your home country. I had individual classes, which was very good, because it was intense and i talked a lot. the teacher took up with my tempo of learning the language and also with the level on which i was.

Program: Travelling Walking through the Andes
I took part in the travelling programme in May 2016, doing the "Walking through the Andes" trip. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience in every respect. I felt really looked after on every stage of the trip (or even before as Eugenio, the director of the school, went out of his way to accommodate a few special requests I had and even picked me up from the airport). I got the feeling that ISE really care about the well-being of the student and you aren't just a number there. Travelling with my teacher Vanessa was just great! Not only is she a great teacher, with the right mixture of rigour and fun, but also a wonderful travelling companion. She took me on a trip first North to Otavalo and then south as far as Cuenca, taking in the main tourist sites along this route. What I liked especially was that I was the only student, so effectively I had my private teacher. I still can't believe myself how much my Spanish improved in the short period of just 12 days. I arrived in Quito with a sound grounding in grammar but little speaking and listening practice, but after speaking with Vanessa all day and honing my skills in the "official" Spanish class I left with language skills fluid enough to hold a conversation about most of my interests (not only the usual tourist stuff). That was really due to Vanessa's willingness to adapt the classes to my needs and to teach me the vocabulary I needed rather than just following a set course. It was just an added benefit that much of the time I did not even realise that I was being taught, I felt as if I was just travelling with a friend. I'd like to add that although my biggest difficulty with Spanish had always been oral comprehension (why do people speak so fast???!) I had no problems at all understanding Vanessa. She speaks very clearly and adapts the level of her sentences to what the student can cope with, but without giving you the feeling you are treated like a little child, so I was never left with that frustrating feeling of being out of my depth that I've sometimes known on other language courses. I'm a language teacher myself, so I know how difficult it is to challenge a student but not frustrate them and I feel that Vanessa did a great job there. What I possibly liked best on the whole journey was that I could ask Vanessa any question regarding Ecuador, the country, its people, cultures, customs and she would answer openly and knowledgably. In this way I learned more about Ecuador than I could have ever done as a normal tourist on a two week trip. I really enjoyed travelling the country by public bus like any normal Ecuatorian would rather than being taxied in and out like the typical foreign tourist, and also sampling the local cuisine. By the way: all buses, restaurants, hostels etc. were perfectly clean and safe and none of the warnings in my guide book about stomach problems, terrible roads, questionable bathrooms etc. came true! This trip was my first time in South America so I came with little idea of what Ecuador would be like and I left with definite plans of going back hopefully sooner rather than later. There are some other travelling tours that ISE have on offer that sound very interesting and I will certainly think about taking part in one of them again! Until then: Thank you Vanessa, thank you Eugenio and thank you ISE - mil gracias!

Travelling in Latin America for the first time and speaking only a few words of spanish, it took a few days to get used to a different rhythm of life. But thanks to the teachers and the whole staff at ISE, I was able to adapt fairly quickly. The teachers patience and their motivating lessons made me improve step by step. The staff has always been welcomming and so helpful. Wheather it was about bying rainboots for the jungle or trying to find an appropriate hairdresser! I did spend three weeks in the Institute in Quito and I realy enjoyed my stay in the historical centre of town where the school is located. But I can also recommend a visit to the smal town of Otavalo where I stayed for one week of classes. It is a lovely and very chilled place. There is lots to discover around Otavalo and it was a welcomming change to the lively and noisy capital. The teachers were competent, lovely amd extremely patient with me. I can only recommend a visit to the Instituto Superior de Espanol in Quito and in Otavalo.

Every day of our seven day "Learn Spanish in Ecuador Travelling Class" was filled with new experiences that were beyond my expectations. Travelling through central Ecuador with our excellent guide and Spanish "profesora", Tania, was both educational and great fun. For the two weeks that I spent with the school, including the one week Travelling Class, I would have to say that my Spanish has improved 10-fold. Thanks for the great time Instituto Superior de Español! I had a great time and hope to be back soon!

My experience with Traveling Classes was wonderful, a week full of adventure! My favorite part was tubing down the Rio Napo! Our teacher Tania was really great and knowledgeable to travel with! It was fun to have classes on the deck of our cabin in Misahualli. Outside of the formal classes we had a lot of time to have normal conversations about culture and important topics regarding Ecuador. I will highly recommend this adventure to people who want to travel and study Spanish! ¡Gracias!

My time in Ecuador was simply amazing. Starting with spanish course in Quito I got to learn so much about cultural differences and life in Ecuador. After Quito I spent 4 weeks in the jungle with shuar indigenous people community, where I learn a lot about the importance of the rain forest and the need of protection and conservation. It was such a great experience that gave me a better understanding about the worlds around.

had a great week at ISE learning Spanish in the mornings, seeing Quito in the afternoon and then practicing Spanish with my homestay family in the evenings. Immersion was very effective and I am much more confident in Spanish than I was before. Thank you for your time and hard work. I enjoyed learning Salsa, and spend a great day in the mountains with the pupils. Becky

Never made a trip, which was that well organized. You're amazing Eugenio! Sorry for asking you hundrets of questions before traveling to Ecuador. But I finally did it, and it was amazing. I really enjoyed my time in Otavalo. It's such a lovely town and I felt much safer then in Quito. But I didn't hat enough time to visit Galapagos. That's sad :/ But maybe I'll come back next year. And of course I'll aks hundrets of questions :) Saludos Anna de Alemana.

I enjoyed my stay in the Amazon so much! I didn’t expect to be able to travel and to see so many different places in such a short time. I’ve seen Coca, Tena and Misuhalli, stayed in this beautiful lodge close to the Naporiver, and visited the Shuar close to Puyo. I really enjoyed my stay!

Thanks to all the teachers and staff at Instituto Superior de Español. Before arriving, I knew very little Spanish. The teachers are very good and extremely patient. In addition to learning grammar they also encourage conversation. It has been an incredible 2 month adventure and I highly recommend this school for anyone seeking to learn/improve Spanish.

One of the best months of my life :) I did a four-week Spanish language study period at ISE and found the language school very suitable for improving my Spanish skills as the school provided very tailored and flexible teaching with emphasis on individual sessions. In general, I also found the city of Quito to be a good place for Spanish studies due to the rather clear accent of the locals, the variety of the city itself and the central location of the city making it a good base for exploring Ecuador on weekends. I studied at ISE in Quito for three weeks and additionally participated on a one-week long travelling classroom program, where several places of interest were visited in the Andes and Amazon regions using public transportation while simultaneously learning Spanish. In my case, the travel group consisted of one student in addition to myself and the teacher (Hola Vanessa :) Espero que todo vaya bien contigo!), with whom I had already studied one week in Quito prior to the travelling week. In other words, the three-person group was very small, which made the learning more efficient and personal. The school itself had a very nice atmosphere with great activities such as cooking sessions and common coffee breaks in the afternoon, and also they had a nice cooperation with one of the local salsa studios, which lead to me picking up a new hobby that still continues back home in Finland! For the three weeks in Quito, the accommodation was organized in an Ecuadorian family by the school. The accommodation, where a varying number of students (max. 6 persons) were housed at the same time, proved to be a very good solution for housing as it supported the Spanish studies in the form of having day-to-day communication mainly with the mother of the family and eased connecting with other students.

Program: Travelling Classroom
First time alone in ecuador - fascinating trip in traveling classroom I stayed in Ecuador from 17/05 until 01/06/2015 and spent 12 days on a traveling classroom with Vanessa (Spanish teacher). (Un)fortunately I was the only person who booked this group travel but this turned out to be a very intensive Spanish course for myself – and I liked it a lot! After arrival I was welcomed cordially by Washington who drove me to my hostal in the Mariscal district of Quito. He already gave me interesting information about the city and if I would have had more time he would have shown me the Mitad del Mundo. But my Spanish course already began the following day. Vanessa and me got friends very soon so that we always found themes to talk about and the time passed thus very quickly. I am especially grateful for the amount of background information concerning cultural or ethical points. Vanessa is a very kind, gracious, optimistic and vivid person with whom I experienced a really good time! As I came on my own the first time to Ecuador I was a bit nervous in the beginning concerning safety, public bus transportation and nutrition. This immediately changed after one day with Vanessa. She always informed me in any case if vigilance was necessary. She always accompanied me and gave advice what and where to eat so that I did not have any problems at all during the whole trip. The travelling program of “walking through the andes” from Otavalo to Cuenca was very well balanced between course time an exciting adventures. I really loved the horse ride at the Laguna Quilotoa and the canopying in Banos – I am sure that I will never forget these experiences! Due to the distances between the sites we had to spend several hours in public busses so that by now my life-quantity should be achieved ☺ - but I tried to use the hours to get into contact with locals and to experience my Spanish. As the historic train from Alausi was in maintenance we had to change the program a bit. Thus I was able to spend a day in the Cayas nature park which was amazing due to the very impressive landscape. The guide of the travel agency was indeed very well informed not only about nature but historic facts too. As I travelled in may some of my days where very cloudy and thus I was unfortunately not able to see any snow-covered volcano - which made me a bit sad – so if anything should be changed it is only the weather…. Please correct your description to avoid any more confusion. In the last days of my time in Ecuador I was able to see Guayaquil and Salinas on the coast as I had some friends living there. Thus I added to my days in the andes also an impression of the other face of Ecuador. As a summery I am very happy with my days in Ecuador and the program was perfect for me to get in touch with the country and its inhabitants. However 16 days are not a lot so that I only got an overview of a very beautiful country which is really rich in variety. One day I will certainly come back – not only to see the Galapagos Islands!

Awesome Week in the Amazon Jungle When i arrived in Quito, i wanted to go asap to the Galapagos Islands,to learn Spanish. I was a little bit sad, that the organisation didn't work in advance - but there was a good reason behind it. So i met Eugenio,to speak about my travelling plans and the other options, the school offers. Three days later i found myself in the wonderful relaxed Yarina-Lodge, to enjoy 5 halfdays private Spanish lessons with my wonderful teacher Vanessa and 5 verry interesting halfdays/nights exploring the rainforest, also private, with Wilson, In fact, that Vanessa also likes to travel, she was able to teach me the most important words and grammar i use during my trip in South America. But not just the language, she also told me where the best travelling spots are and how i easiely get there.! I also learned a lot from the guide. He took all the time it needed, to explain me (of course in Spanish and Quechua) the animals, the plants and also the life in the rainforest. Last but not least, i also got my trip to the Galapagos Islands with a perfect boat-tour, that Eugenio recommended to me.:) Compliments: First of all a big compliment for the idea and the organisation of the travelling classroom. It is the perfect way to travel, learn a language and the culture of a country - and it doesn't even feel like learning.;)! Also a big thank you to Eugenio, Vanessa and the other staff - everyone is very kind and helpful, doesn't matter if it is about the school, the travelling or any other problems, also weeks after the studytime.! Seriously - it was just perfect.:)
